Michigan to Allow Health Insurers to Reinstate Canceled Plans

If your health insurance policy was cancelled in anticipation of the start of the Affordable Care Act, you may soon be able to have it reinstated.

Today, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) said that after careful review, Michigan is allowing health insurers to reinstate cancelled policies.

Health Care Reform: Navigating the ACA Marketplace

This morning, Fraser Trebilcock teamed up with the Lansing Chamber of Commerce to present a seminar to help employers keep up with changes related to Health Care Reform. Topics included a background on the Affordable Care Act and Health Insurance Marketplace, information on delays,  and what changes can be expected in the future.

Federal Health Insurance Exchange Delays Blamed on Software Failure

For the first time since the opening of the federal health insurance exchanges, federal officials are confirming that a software failure is to blame for, at times, shutting down the entire system. An article today on NYTimes.com states:

Todd Park, President Obama’s top technology adviser, said the failure occurred in the part of the Web site that lets people create user accounts at the beginning of the insurance sign-up process. The crash prevented many people from viewing any of their insurance options or gaining access to information on what federal subsidies might be available.

IRS Website Explains Tax Provisions of the Health Care Law

The IRS has launched a new Affordable Care Act Tax Provisions website at IRS.gov/aca to educate individuals and businesses on how the health care law may affect them. The new home page has three sections, which explain the tax benefits and responsibilities for individuals and families, employers, and other organizations, with links and information for each group. The site provides information about tax provisions that are in effect now and those that will go into effect in 2014 and beyond.

Client Alert: Updated SBC Guidance and Templates for Second Year of Applicability

A group health plan and a health insurance issuer offering group health insurance coverage must provide an SBC to participants and beneficiaries (including COBRA qualified beneficiaries under certain circumstances) with respect to each benefit package offered by the plan or issuer for which the participant or beneficiary is eligible.
