It’s not every day that you hear two Supreme Court justices call the American criminal justice system too harsh. However, this week U.S. Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer and Anthony Kennedy testified just that to the Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee. The particular House Appropriations Committee hearing was set to discuss the annual budget request for the Supreme Court.
While testifying, Justice Breyer called minimum sentences “a terrible idea”.
