In releasing this announcement, CMS stated: “We have received requests for an extension of the deadline for contributing entities to submit their 2014 enrollment counts for the transitional reinsurance program contributions under 45 CFR 153.405(b). The deadline has now been extended until 11:59 p.m. on December 5, 2014. The January 15, 2015 and November 15, 2015 payment deadlines remain the same.”
Although we realize the November 15th deadline has already passed, the announcement was just released this weekend.

The deadline for a large health plan to obtain its health plan identifier (“HPID”) is quickly approaching. As we previously advised (please see our Client Alert dated April 21, 2014), the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires a controlling health plan (“CHP”) to obtain a HPID, which must be used in any HIPAA electronic covered transaction that the health plan conducts or that a business associate conducts on behalf of the health plan. Over the past few years, there has been an increased use of electronic medical records instead of printed paper medical records. With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, health care providers were required to begin using electronic medical records or face a series of penalties.
