Fraser Trebilcock Shareholder Michael H. Perry will be among the honorees at the State Bar of Michigan’s 50-Year Golden Celebration on Thursday, May 25, 2023. This luncheon recognizes and honors the attorneys who have been members of the State Bar of Michigan for 50 years.
Mr. Perry received his undergraduate degree from Albion College and obtained his juris doctorate cum laude from Wayne State University Law School in 1973. After law school, he worked with the Michigan Court of Appeals initially as a prehearing attorney and then as Judge Glenn Allen’s law clerk. In 1975, Mike first joined Fraser Trebilcock, where he worked in the firm’s litigation department. Mike joined another law firm in the fall of 1978 and returned to Fraser Trebilcock in April of 1987 where he has continued his commercial and environmental litigation practice to the present.
Serving in leadership positions comes second nature to Mr. Perry. He first served as the firm’s President in 2003 through 2006. He was elected again in December of 2017 and served as the firm’s President until December of 2022. In this position, Mr. Perry worked closely with the firm’s attorneys and staff on the development and implementation of the firm’s client-centered strategic plans.
Mr. Perry has tried a number of jury and non-jury trials to verdict in a wide range of cases in the state and federal courts. During the past several years, his litigation practice is fairly evenly divided between commercial and environmental disputes; the latter include the defense of many claims brought by the State of Michigan’s Department of the Environment, Great Lakes and Energy [“EGLE”] formerly known at the Department of Environmental Quality and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The commercial disputes involve the representation of businesses and licensed professionals in administrative and judicial proceedings.
Mr. Perry is a member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Litigation, Environmental Law and Agricultural Law sections, is a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation and for many years has been a “Super Lawyer” in the area of Environmental Litigation. Mike and his wife Susan live in East Lansing with their dog Rosie and enjoy traveling throughout Pure Michigan.
